Info on Test I Results and Make-up Test
Dear students, by now you must have all got your Test I grades. As you were told in the previous bit of information, it was prof. Gonzalez's duty to correct, mark and send you the grades. We have learnt that some of you have had problems in "decoding" the email intended to inform about the grade. If such is your case send a note to prof. Gonzalez's email account and explain what your particular situation is. Regarding the date for the make-up test, it has been originally scheduled for January 8th 2009, 12 m - 2 pm. Professors in the chair will later on make the final arrangements and decision, but that seems to be the best date and time so that 1) we will not miss any classes to set up the test, 2) it will interfere as little as possible with the presentations you have to perform starting the second week in January, 3) students from both morning and afternoon classes will be able to attend in one group, and 4) it will imply some similar sacrifice for everybody since people who study in the morning will have to leave later, those who study in the afternoon will have to get to the institute before the usual time; besides the test will begin in the morning which is one of prof. Gonzalez's free shifts and end up in the afternoon which is one of prof. Duran's free shifts. Thus we will all have our share of responsibility and sacrifice. Decide whether you are going to take that test and, please, let us know about your decision as soon as you can.
Notice you've still got the time to take the necessary provisions if you need a special permit from your boss at work, taking into account the test will be set in a day and time other than your regular time table.
Needless to say that in case you decide to take it you must make sure you are going to do better this time. It makes no sense to apply for a second opportunity if you do not have the will power it takes to gather the necessary time and effort to make better in a second chance.
We are already working on it! How about you?

Papers
You've got plenty of information in these blogs to help you through your making of the research paper, but apparently you have not been paying much attention to that. So...
Please, do not forget to take into account three details:
1.- Your paper MUST include both quotations and bibliography (have you noticed they are different?)
2.- Make sure you give credit to EVERY and EACH source of information you use/quote other than yourselves. Disregarding this regulation will result in getting a mark of 1 point for such a task.
3.- You are not allowed to include more than 50% of digital/virtual sources in your bibliography.
Please, DO pay some atention to these lines. We hope not to say "I told you...".
Do take care, have fun, enjoy yourselves and READ!

First Test Grades!
Our greetings to you all in these holidays. We you are doing great and take advantage of this break to regain the energy you need to keep going.
Your tests are being corrected by Prof. Gonzalez and, hopefully, your grades should reach you any time between now and next Tuesday. We have not yet decided whether they will be posted here for every one to read, if we will send them via email or if we will use Ipostel as a carrier. In any case, keep checking so that you will tell us if you are interested in taking a new test to make up for the first we had.

Information about Test I
After so many inconveniences, we (all Introduction to Literature and Culture of the ESW classes) are having our first test on Wednesday Dic 10th. That means that for some students there wil be no class session before the test. Therefore, we decided to provide you with some information on the test.
We will be testing your knowledge on the first two Units in the course. That is, the origins of the English culture and language, English as a global language, English as a language used to trigger discrimination as well as concepts which are connected to these topics.
You will find at least three different types of exercises in the test: Part I Circle the letter that corresponds to the best choice in order to complete the sentence (6 sentences with 6 choices each). Part II Fill in the blanks. Read carefully and write the suitable words in order to make the whole paragraphs sensible. Part III Answer questions briefly in an analytical way.
We could possibly add a fourth part in order to test your ability to analise a short literary text, but we have made a final decision on the matter yet. In any case, you'll be prepared for such possibility, taking into account that that is exactly what we have been doing in the most recent class sessions.

What happened after the "Telephone Conversation"?
(Homework for classes 002A & 002B) We analised "Telephone Conversation" in class. It obviously deals with discrimination. Now, use your imagination to produce a short text to say what happened after the conversation. You are free to choose how long lapsed between the end of the conversation and your continuation. Write in the first person (you play the role of the speaker who reports the conversation). Your composition is due by Saturday 6, the latest!

"Friend, Ah You Have Changed"
(Activity intended for section 001) We read the poem in class and we started a collective analysis of the poem. Now, finish reading and tell us how you interpret the end. Is it obvious? Why not? What denouement do you suggest? What happens to the speaker? What happens to his/her 'friend' at the end?
Go ahead a publish your view...

Anybody out there???
It is curious -to say the least- that no one has left a single note to express his/her concern on the tests or possible changes in the calendar or ANYTHING! Yet, I am glad I learned that at least one of my favourite students is reading BEYOND what I have asked you to read.
Because of that -and the hope that someone else might be interested in reading for the sake of reading and just the pleasure of living parallel lives printed on paper- I decided to make some more literature available for you in this blog.
So, you'll find Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, and Shakespeare's plays in the form of short stories, ready for you to download from the column on the right. Thanks to Voruska's comments!!!
Thank you for coming, see you any time, enjoy yourselves and READ!!!
ps.- I also posted Marlowe's Faustus at Mr A Valencia's request.

Updating depends on you!
Now you've got the basic information you need to find your own whereabouts (where on earth your feet are standing!) and move forward to achieve the best results in this course! Check the downloadable information (in the column on the right) and decide what you need to revise. We have also added an Excel file (Check your own record...) for you to fill in and keep your own performance under permanent surveillance, should you want to make changes on the way!

Notice...
Notice, please, that -since course programmes are official documents- the information in the programme has been published in Spanish. Hence, there is no mistake involved.
Already on the way...
Just a note to let you know that the necessary initial information wil be posted here for you to start organising the work you will do during the course.
We also apologise for all the inconvenience caused by mistakes in the registration process (not a responsibility of this chair), which led a few students to 'wrong' registration in this course.
Thanks for your patience.
